President Clinton off to Haiti

MEDIA ADVISORY: President Clinton to Travel to Haiti and the Dominican Republic
New York, NY – On Tuesday, June 1, President Clinton will travel to Haiti and visit Léogâne, where he will meet with UN Cluster Heads, UN agencies and community leaders. He will then tour a temporary housing site. Both are open to the press.

President Clinton will then travel to the Dominican Republic where he and Haitian Prime Minister, Jean Max Bellerive, will brief board representatives - including donors and Haitians - of the Interim Haiti Reconstruction Commission (IHRC). There will be a spray at the top.
On Wednesday, June 2, he will address the summit on Haiti, “Solidarity beyond the Crisis,” in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. His remarks are open press.

President Clinton first traveled to Haiti in 1975. As President, he worked to encourage economic development and restore democratically elected leadership in Haiti. After leaving the White House, he continued to travel to Haiti as a private citizen and respond to the needs of Haitians through the work of the William J. Clinton Foundation, the Clinton Global Initiative, and the Clinton Health Access Initiative, and recently, as the UN Special Envoy for Haiti. In May 2010, he was named by the Government of Haiti as the international co-Chair of the Interim Haiti Reconstruction Commission (IHRC).
