Message From Bill Clinton From Haiti

Flying into Port-au-Prince for the second time since the earthquake -- I was pleased to see continued signs of an expanding relief effort.

Today, I'll help my team deliver the emergency supplies we brought with us on our plane. Donation by donation, it's the generosity of people like you that is keeping this relief effort going.

And your continued dedication is what will make sure the Haitian people have the tools and supplies they need to rebuild. I am so grateful that you have responded to this devastating crisis.

As you read this, work is underway to deliver meals, set up temporary shelters, and restore access to health services for earthquake survivors.

I'm proud that today we were able to deliver laptops, generators, plastic sheeting, protein bars, and 1,900 lbs of medical supplies. And it's not going to stop there.

Long after the television crews have gone and emergency response teams have returned to their home countries, I can promise you the Clinton Foundation will remain committed to Haiti's long-term rebuilding and recovery.

We will work with reputable organizations, the Haitian government, and most importantly the people of Haiti to ensure that they are empowered to create more opportunities for jobs, education, and health care than existed the day before this tragedy occurred. There is a Haitian proverb, "Men anpil chay pa lou," which translates as "Many hands lighten the load."

It's going to take a lot of help and a long time, but I know that together you and I can lighten the load that the Haitian people have carried on their own for far too long. Thank you for being part of that work with me today.

I'll continue to be in touch as our work continues here in Port-au-Prince and beyond. Bill Clinton

PS. Only with your continued generosity will we be able to sustain these efforts.

President Clinton to Make Second Visit to Haiti Following Earthquake

New York, NY – President Bill Clinton, founder of the William J. Clinton Foundation and United Nations Special Envoy for Haiti, will travel to Haiti on Friday to meet with Haitian leaders, visit Gheskio clinic in Port-au-Prince, and deliver essential supplies.

President Clinton traveled to Haiti two weeks ago, days after the devastating earthquake, to meet with Haitian and UN officials and deliver relief supplies including water, food, medical supplies, solar flash lights, portable radios, and generators donated by Home Depot, Walmart, and purchased with funds raised by the Clinton Foundation Haiti Earthquake Fund, and to help begin the process of recovery and reconstruction.

“More than three weeks after the earthquake, the relief efforts in Haiti have been increasing to meet staggering needs, but the long road to recovery has just begun,” President Clinton said. “Tomorrow, I will return to Port-au-Prince for the second time since the disaster to unload supplies and talk to Haitian officials to ensure assistance continues to be effective, coordinated, and sustained in the weeks and months to come.”

President Clinton has been leading Haiti relief efforts through the Clinton Foundation Haiti Earthquake Fund, which is helping to provide immediate financial assistance to NGOs working on the ground in Haiti, and the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund.

In the aftermath of the earthquake, President Barack Obama asked President Clinton and President George W. Bush to raise funds for immediate relief and long-term recovery efforts to help those who are homeless, hungry, and hurt. In response, the two Presidents established the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund (CBHF) to identify and fulfill unmet needs in the region, foster economic opportunity, improve the quality of life of those affected over the long term, and assist the people of Haiti as they build back better.
