And so began the frenzy of day one at Mercedes-Benz Fashion
Week Spring/Summer 2015. Although it is September and one would think it
would be on the cool side, the opposite is true. New York City’s
summery temperatures encourage locals as well as tourists to wear their
bright and breezy outfits: a great compliment to what was seen on the
runways.
BCBGMAXAZRIA’s Spring/Summer 2015 Collection was elegant with a bohemian twist. They were able to capture simplicity at its finest. It all started with the basics: makeup and nails.
“Val Garland, [Lead Design Makeup Artist for MAC] has [created] this amazing sunkissed, the girl just got back from vacation in Ibiza, look,” explains Tiffany Johnston, a Senior Makeup Artist for MAC. “She’s obviously really pretty [and] she’s a [bit of ] a hippy girl, so she doesn’t wear a lot of makeup… Everything is very subtle, but it has to be done very specifically.”
Johnston goes on to discuss “beautiful luminous skin because that’s always in” for each model with lots of sunkissed qualities minus using heavy bronzer; it’s about looking natural. For the eyes, she surprisingly mentions bringing out and enhancing the natural darkness of the lid – most women tend to cover up this part of their eye using eyeshadow or concealer – with MAC’s Spring/Summer 2015 cream eyeshadow palette.
“Then it’s just about beautiful plump lips and nice rosy cheeks. What makes it all come together to give it perfect shape, to really frame the face, is the brow. [We] really pay attention to brushing the brow up, [then] fill in where there’s little holes making the brow look as full and a groomed as possible because that’s what make s this a natural look,” she says.
Young and aspiring nail artist with OPI, Giana Tucci, gives the inside scoop on what the models wore: Bubble Bath, a light pink. “It’s an iconic colour [and is] beautiful on all women.”
In the afternoon, DESIGUAL captured the audience’s attention with loud energetic music, a flower patterned runway, models who walked with big smiles (a not so usual occurrence) and most importantly, showcasing a bright and bold flower themed Spring/Summer 2015 Collection.
